Running anxiety, social connection, and the cost of leadership
Exploring my curiosity for running and rehab and sharing what I learn every week.
What I’m Thinking
I. My best piece of advice to new runners:
Embrace walking.
Run-walk intervals are the best way for new runners to accumulate miles.
II. The best time to start running was 30 years ago, the next best time is today.
It’s never too late to start.
What I’m Reading
Slower recovery and delayed return to running after injury for high anxiety runners:
“High anxiety may identify runners who will experience a longer recovery process, health-related functional disruptions, and less optimization of gait biomechanics during rehabilitation after a lower extremity injury… Anxiety may also interfere with sleep and daily functional activities among injured runners.”
Foster connection this weekend:
“in the general population, both social isolation and loneliness were significantly associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality and cancer mortality. Social isolation also increased the risk of cardiovascular disease mortality.”
What I’m Liking
Georgia Football Coach Kirby Smart on the cost of leadership:
Until next week ✌️
P.S.
I’m running the New York City Marathon on November 5th to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
I’m making progress toward my goal.
But I still have a ways to go.
